About the Artist
Acrylic on canvas · Emotions that overcome cultural demarcations
Farangis Idelchi is a Swedish-Iranian painter working in acrylic on canvas. Her work explores emotions born from displacement and belonging — the experience of leaving one world and building another, rendered in gestural forms that pull light from dark grounds.
Born in Iran, Farangis studied at a private art school in Tehran from 1982 to 1986. In 1987, she fled Iran and arrived in Sweden. After months in refugee camps, she settled first in Torsby, then Gothenburg — chosen so she could continue her art education.
While raising two sons alone as a single mother, she pursued her studies with determination: Kyrkeruds folkhögskola in Årjäng (1991–93), Dômens konstskola in Göteborg (1993–96), and Konsthögskolan Valand (2001–02) — Gothenburg's premier art academy.
As an exiled painter, she conveys feelings that overcome cultural demarcations — emotions rooted in experiences from her native land, expressed through a visual language that speaks across borders.
Her work has been exhibited internationally since 1992, including the Florence Biennale (2009), Museum Castello Estense in Ferrara, Italy (2011), and galleries across Sweden, Norway, and the Netherlands. Many of her paintings are held in private collections in Sweden, Switzerland, and Italy.
